Interview: South Africa Producer, Cubbi Shares Irresistible Single "GTFO"

Following his debut single "Rippling," Cubbi is returning with the release of another irresistible single, "GTFO," Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, Cubbi is emerging as a master of combining dynamic melodies with fresh indie-electronic beats. However, once you dig further into Cubbi's music, you soon discover a raw and intimate look into life that many may find refuge in.

In our recent conversation, Cubbi shares the story behind latest single GTFO, advice for other musicians, and much more below!

What's the story behind your new single, "GTFO"? Hi Music Update Central, the inspiration behind my new project is really to just get my music self out into the world. I’ve been writing and producing for the longest time behind the scenes but haven’t had the courage to release any of my own songs. The music on my upcoming EP talks about a couple struggles I’ve gone through over the past couple years.

When did you know you wanted to pursue a musical career?

First dream was to win gold in the olympics for swimming (ambitious, I know). In 5th grade my parents moved to a small town and the school there didn’t have a pool so my focus shifted to my other passion. Blessing in disguise at the time, cause now I couldn’t think of anything better to do with my time than create music.

What advice would you give to another artist? Don’t rush in discovering your artistry. These things take time and a lot of patience. Learn from the greats that have come before and then carve your own path in the direction you want to take.

What can fans expect to see you doing in a few years? In a few years I will be doing a lot of touring and playing festivals, continuing to drop more music and share visual content with my listeners too. There are plenty of artists that I’d love to write with, that hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to work with in the coming years.
