Interview: Singer-Songwriter, Marlene Oak Writes Her Journey with EP Release "Silver Moon"
Growing up on a small island outside Stockholm, singer-songwriter Marlene Oak turned to music as her escape. After spending her teenage years busking on the streets of the Swedish capital’s Old Town, she first got discovered by someone who simply happened to pass by. After releasing a couple of songs.
We recently chatted with Marlene Oak about the inspiration behind her new EP, Silver Moon, inspiration behind the title, and writing inspiration below!
Thanks for chatting with Music Update Central! What's the inspiration behind your new EP, Silver Moon? This EP is a lot about my own experiences and emotions. It’s a way for me to connect with feelings and clear my mind. But I like to write about everything that inspires me.
What made you choose the title "Silver Moon”? Before I wrote the title track I listened a lot to Bessie Smith, Ella Jenkins, Billie Holliday and Leadbelly. Everyone of them are big inspirations behind this song. You can feel their pain in their voices and every word they sing feels so close and honest. When I’m writing songs I want to express everything, even if it’s dark. For me ’Silver Moon' summarizes the whole EP together.
How did you pick songs for your EP? Some of the songs were written a while ago, so I’m happy to finally share them with listeners.
When writing music, where do you get your inspiration from? I write about everything that comes to my mind, experiences, emotions, relations, places and more. When I’m writing songs, It needs to come from me or else it doesn’t feel right.
