Thanks for chatting with Music Update Central! What's the inspiration behind your latest release "Vessel"? Thanks so much for chatting with me! What inspired "Vessel" was a really rough breakup I went through a few years ago. I was heartbroken and and felt very isolated after that relationship ended because I had completely immersed myself within it for a number of years and no longer felt like I had an identity without him. The song just flowed out of me one night and really helped translate my emotions into words which I found therapeutic and liberating.

The same very personal songwriting process of creating “Vessel” laid the groundwork for creating my new album, Heart of Shadows.

You released the official video with guest stars Tiera Skovbye and Jordan Connor of "Riverdale". What was it like working with them? Tiera and Jordan are two of the most genuine and talented artists I've ever met. I'll never forget watching them from behind the camera and completely losing myself in the moment – jaw drop and all. In between filming, we had a lot of fun. The whole atmosphere on set was like one big happy family with everyone sharing funny stories and laughing. Then there were moments when things got real serious and we all dove into the creative process in such a beautiful way. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience working with Tiera and Jordan. They are amazing and I cannot say enough good things about them.

When did you know that you wanted to pursue a musical career? The moment I held my first professionally recorded album – Seasons – in my hands I knew that I had to do this. I had been living in Toronto, Canada at the time, and working with the many talented artists at Lenz Entertainment on the record. It was my first real glimpse into the professional world of music and I was inspired by the recording experience and everyone I worked with in the studio and office. I felt truly motivated from that experience to pursue music as a career.

Who are your biggest influences? My biggest influences are Billie Holiday, Madonna, Lana Del Rey and Amy Winehouse. I listened to such a broad range of artists growing up and pulled inspiration from so many different styles. I feel that variety has really made an impact on my sound, as well as the more dramatic and string-heavy artists. It's as if I get pulled into another world and become enchanted by their melodies and the dynamics of the instrumentation.

What can fans expect in the upcoming months? Now that I have released Heart of Shadows , “Vessel” (the album’s first single) and its music video, you can expect to hear more solo releases as well as some collaborations. I intend to perform a bit more around Canada, but mostly get back to the creative process of my career and get some new music going. You can keep up with all the new stuff at RoyalOfficial.com and on my social media.
