Interview: Rising Pop Singer shye. Releases New Single & Video for 'Wither'

Rising pop singer shye. releases new emotional single and video for "Wither". Born and raised in Upstate New York, shye. turned to writing music at a young age as a way to cope with the things he was going through. Growing up using several different creative outlets, he spent years writing songs before a sound inspired and resonated with him in the fall of 2017.

The singer/songwriters chats with us about his new single "Wither", overcoming struggles, and future plans in an exclusive interview below.

When did you know that you wanted to pursue a musical career? It's something that’s been a part of me for a long time. I started singing and doing theatre in elementary school, and continued through high school. I had some

incredible teachers that

kept me invested, and my parents both instilled it in me at a young age as well. My father is a musician, and my mother is a fantastic writer. I started taking it more seriously in high school, and never imagined doing anything else since then.

What's the story/message behind your single "Wither"? It’s about being planted in a feeling by someone you love, expecting to spend your time growing together, and unfortunately being left alone to wilt. It’s about watching that person continue to bloom without you from a distance, and feeling stuck in that initial feeling.

What made you want to create such a touching video for your single "Wither"? How did it come about? I wanted the video to amplify the same feeling of loneliness that the song conveys. That’s why you never see the actress’ face. It’s supposed to signify being haunted by that lonely feeling, and chasing the ghost of what I thought we were together. My brilliant film team Mitch Francis and Gian Mitchell really took it home from there with the visual. I know Mitch was really inspired by the show The Haunting of Hill House, and wanted to recreate that sort of really dark imagery.

Why did you turn to music to cope with the things you were going through at such a young age? That came from my parents, mainly my mother. My father gave me a guitar for my birthday when I was a kid and started teaching me some songs. My mother is a fantastic writer; poems, letters, birthday cards, anything. She has always had a way with words, and when I was first diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, she handed me a notebook and a pen and told me to write down everything I was feeling. That was my way to get it out, and not harness that negative energy. I never stopped writing.

What's your 2019 New Year's Resolution? I just want to be the best version of myself every year, and continue to evolve as both an artist and a man. I want to continue to write and release music that is meaningful to me, that hopefully people can connect with.

What can fans expect in the upcoming months? You can expect me to stay busy, continuing to write and record new music. I plan to release just as much, if not more music this year. Keep those eyes and ears peeled.
