New City Releases Single 'Getting Closer'

Genre-blending Toronto-based trio NEW CITY release a brand new single, “Getting Closer,” along with its lyric video: WATCH HERE. This the band’s first release since signing with Mosely Music Group/Capitol Records.

This release follows the exciting news that the band will make their U.S. live debut with a School Night show at Bardot in Los Angeles on April 9. For more information and to RSVP, check HERE.

“Getting Closer” comes at a crucial time for NEW CITY in their evolution, reflecting on where they came from and looking towards where they are headed. A declaration of empowerment for the band and anyone else working towards their dreams. “It’s about breaking yourself down and putting everything on the table, but still feeling lost,” lead-singer Adrian Mitchell explains about the new song, “It reflects the ways we’ve found ourselves as a band and can talk about bigger topics. At first, we wrote about the things we wanted and desired, but now our writing is starting to reflect what our purpose actually is and what we’re looking for in the future.” The track was written and co-produced by the band themselves, alongside longtime collaborator, Fede Vindver, who produced “Dirty Secrets” and co-produced “Coachella.”

Just last year, NEW CITY released their first-ever song, “Coachella,” a summertime anthem about the Indio, California music festival. The track has since amassed almost two million streams, with Clash magazine declaring it a “perfect pop confection.” The music video for the track, sees the band channeling party atmosphere of the desert festival – despite never having been. The follow-up, deep house-inflected “Dirty Secrets,” was the #1 Most Added single at Canadian Pop Radio. The song entered the Canadian radio chart at number 22, jumping seven spots in just two weeks and clearing four million streams, "With the irresistible pop sensibilities of New City,” wrote Billboard, “they are a secret you’ll want to share."

Shortly after the release of “Dirty Secrets,” NEW CITY’s hybrid-pop sound borrowing from pop, rhythmic and EDM influences caught the attention of Grammy-winning multiplatinum super producer, Timbaland, and his manager Gary Marella who inked the band to Mosley Music Group imprint alongside Capitol Records stateside. “These guys are incredibly talented and have what it takes to be superstars,” Timbaland states. Stay tuned for more to come from NEW CITY.
