NE-YO explains, “I love a woman who knows how to move. I love a woman that has her own self, her own heart and mind. She’s comfortable with her body. And when her song comes on, she’s gonna get up and move. She’s gonna show you just how confident and comfortable she is. ‘Push Back’ is about these women.”
“Push Back” is from NE-YO’s seventh studio album, Good Man, which also includes collaborations with 2 Chainz, Ty Dolla $ign, Romeo Santos, PartyNextDoor and others. Set for release on June 8 by Motown Records/Compound Entertainment, the album is an expedition through the highs and lows of love, with an extra shot of candor. It showcases NE-YO’s growth musically and personally, while reacquainting fans with the sounds of classic R&B.
The album’s title track/lead single leads the way as one of the most autobiographical cuts on Good Man. Rap-Up said, “NE-YO keeps the romance alive on his new single ‘Good Man.’” ThisIsRnB praised it as “heartfelt” and HotNewHipHop observed, “He's proven to be a master at making sultry R&B tunes and now, he comes through with his new song ‘Good Man.’” View the lyric video for “Good Man” HERE.
“I want people to take the journey with me and see if they can feel what I’m feeling,” says NE-YO. On RapRadar’s “Cigar Talk,” NE-YO explained further, “There’s no such thing as a perfect man, there’s no such thing as a person who has never made a mistake, before but you are not defined by your mistakes…What it is to be a good man is to own those mistakes, and figure out the best way to move forward.” He reveals more about the new album in this Q&A with Ebony.
