We spoke with Karen abut her new single and here is what she has to say!

Thank you for chatting with Music Update Central! You’re gearing up for your new single ‘Just a Song’. What can fans expect from this single?

Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with me! I think listeners can definitely expect some genre bending with this song. It easily flirts with country and pop -- but ultimately, if you were strip away the production, it’s a country story. It’s something I’m really proud of and I can’t wait for people to hear it.

When did you know that you wanted to pursue a musical career?

I was 11 years old. My dad had been encouraging me to sing in church, and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out why! Turns out, your parents know you better than you know yourself sometimes. We were in the car, Taylor Swift’s first single, “Tim McGraw” came on, and I just knew. I begged my father for a guitar for a year and a half, and finally got one when I was 13 for Christmas. I started writing songs that same day, and I haven’t stopped since.

After this single, what can fans expect in the future?

More music! I’m so happy to be able to say that. I’m already planning a trip back to Nashville to record the second single, which will be out later this year. Ultimately, I’m working and writing for an EP, which I’m planning to release early next year!

MUC Random Question: What’s one of the weirdest dreams you’ve ever had?

One time I had a dream I was a giant ice cream cone. I was running away from a bunch of other flavors -- it was weird!
