Singer/songwriter and actress Ashla Taylor is set to star as Shania Twain for the upcoming docudrama series titled, “The Price of Fame.” The hour-long episode, airing Sunday, February 18 on cable and satellite network REELZ, will tell the heartfelt story of the pop/country star’s journey into becoming the world’s top-selling female country artist and five- time GRAMMY Award-winner. On the heels of Taylor’s REELZ debut, the country newcomer will release her first radio single“Nothin’ About Love” --impacting airwaves on February 19. Ashla Taylor is an actress, singer, songwriter, and put quite simply, a force to be reckoned with. She brings an exciting new energy to Nashville that has been cultivated over the past two decades by exposure to an eclectic musical smorgasbord that encompassed a broad range of pop, R&B, and country. But her passion for country music won out when her Nana took her to see Shania Twain in concert. She was only eight years old at the time, but that one exposure to Twain has kept her inspired and motivated ever since. Learning to play guitar, writing her own songs, acting, everything she has done, been, written, and/or lived has somehow been linked back to that one incredible concert experience. Suffice it to say it isn't just fate that finds her portraying Shania Twain in the upcoming docudrama on the REELZ Network in February. Taylor says, "When I was asked to audition for the role of Shania, I knew I would not have to do a character study because it was a role I had been unknowingly preparing for my entire life. She had always been my biggest inspiration, my greatest influence. I am so honored to portray such an incredible artist.” She goes on to say, "I do hope that Shania gets to see the docudrama and when she does I hope she will love the way I portrayed her. I have never met her, but if that day ever comes, you can bet I will be gushing over her and thanking her for being my driving inspiration.” “The Price of Fame- Shania Twain,” will air Sunday, February 18 at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT, giving viewers an intimate perspective on Twain’s life and career, using personal accounts from the celebrity's friends and colleagues in addition to entertainment journalists. “The Price of Fame” is produced by AMS Pictures. More About Ashla Taylor: Raised in McCalla, AL, Ashla Taylor began singing in the church choir. With a Pentecostal evangelist father, she taught herself to play guitar and piano to lead music at the family's tent revivals. Unbeknownst to her conservative parents, both of Taylor's grandmothers - one a poet and the other a rebel who burned up the honky-tonk circuit in the 1970's - were introducing her to artists like Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Aretha Franklin, The Eagles, Journey, Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks and Shania Twain. By the time she was a teenager, she had secretly collected and studied a variety of pop, country and classic rock albums that had to be hidden from her disapproving parents. She wrote her first song when she put music to a poem her grandmother had written when she was born and continued writing songs for church, secretly chronicling her experiences growing up to share with her grandmother. After years of leading a double life which included sneaking out at night to local bars to play songs she had written, Taylor made the decision to expose her free-spirited music and break away from the restrictions of her upbringing to aim for Music City. She landed in Nashville full of wide-eyed ambition and a deep-rooted passion for honest lyrics. www.AshlaTaylor.com
