Interview: Meet the 'Coolest Girl in the World', Jenna Paulette

Jenna Paulette is your next addiction. Hailing from Texas, she brings her roots to the table with her debut single 'Coolest Girl in the World'. Jenna talks about her debut single, Song Suffragettes, and her favorite weekday.

Thank you for chatting with Music Update Central! Your debut single 'Coolest Girl in the World' is super good. What’s the inspiration behind the single? Why did you choose that as your first single? Thank you so much! “Coolest Girl in the World” makes me feel the way I want to make other people feel with my music and, it’s a the perfect middle ground to my sound—it’s country western, but it has pop elements. It felt like the perfect introduction! The inspiration came from the mix tapes I got from past boyfriends. I would listen to them over and over, and think to myself, “Oh my gosh! Someone feels that way about me?!” I wanted to write about that!

You were a part of the Song Suffragettes ‘Times Up’ Music Video. What was it like working with the team and other females to deliver a message? It was SO FUN! We all just banded together and made it happen. It was written on a Tuesday, recorded that Thursday, the video was shot that Sunday and released the following Friday. We all had the best time with each other at the shoot. We laughed, ate too many starbursts and goldfish and complimented each other for 8 hours straight. It was so opposite of the way some my view women in the industry... We are all competitive with ourselves to be our best, but we encourage each other to find our lane and make great music. That’s what it’s all about!

What advice would you give other females in the music industry? Figure out who you really are—that’s what makes you a unique artist. Don’t look at what everyone else is doing. Don’t BS anything, hold yourself to the highest standard, listen to constructive criticism from people you trust and be so genuinely kind that it sets the tone in every room you walk into.

MUC Random Question: What’s your favorite weekday and why? I love Saturdays. I get all the extra things done on Saturdays, like cleaning my house, running errands and a good, fun workout. It’s like I get to do everything I want and need at once, and then I feel so fresh! I usually go out on Saturday nights with my husband Tim, or hang with friends. Then Sunday is my chill day: my church day and the day I reset my mind... so I am always looking forward to that on a Saturday, too!
