Meet Your Valedictorian: Survival Kit
Survival Kit talks about the inspiration behind their single 'Valedictorian', memorable tour story, and formation of the band.
Thank you for chatting with Music Update Central! You just released your single "Valedictorian". What's the inspiration behind the single? It’s an old experience a member saw in his life where a heavy situation lead to some very dark times for a family member. Now, years later, I would say things have turned around. So I used the positive energy now to help dispel an old chip on the shoulder. Hope you enjoy the energy and fun listening like we did recording it!
In 2016, Survival Kit formed together. What made you guys want to launch a band? We’d all played together in our younger days and have known each other for the better part of 10 years. We’d had our own ups and downs in other bands, and felt we had something special when we played together. We’ve grown so much since being born and it feels like that progress is never ending. It’s only a bonus that we get to do it with our best friends.
What's your most memorable tour story? We played a bar in Tonawanda, NY where a gentleman named BobPaul Nana, (has a facebook, I recommend looking him up.) who was a living banana. And totally lived up to it, full costume, banana flask, etc. Constantly. He was improv dancing with a band called Yellow Sauce. He even joined us in our set for a song! Super fun and cool dudes we hope we have the pleasure of seeing in the future-ooni.
For the rest of 2017, what can fans expect? Steady single releases, playing show in the tri-state area, and constantly on the move. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for Survival Kit.
