Thank you for chatting with Music Update Central! You're gearing up for the release of your brand new single "The Fish Ain't Biting". What's the story/message behind the song? Oddly enough, my dad actually came up with the title and concept of the song, and we co-wrote it together. He wanted to put a humorous twist on watching me (and a lot of my friends for that matter) struggle with dating. I feel like you can only go on so many bad dates before you start questioning your sanity haha, and coming from that angle made the lyrics easy to write. While I'm a hopeless romantic, and I'll never give up on love, I think it's okay to take a minute and laugh at the absurdity of it all, and "The Fish Ain't Biting" is my way of doing just that.
When did you know you wanted to pursue a musical career? I was fortunate enough to grow up in a family of musicians, and my family always encouraged me to pursue music professionally. I started playing bass in my first band at 14, began singing demo vocals for several producers at 20, and toured internationally playing bass and singing bgv's for a major label artist at 21. My parents gave me no delusions about how difficult a career in music would be, and mine has certainly had its ups and downs. However, their support has been unwavering, just like my determination to carve out my place in country music.
Which musician or band most impacted and influenced your career? I don't think I could pick just one, but the top 5 most influential artists/bands would have to be: Dixie Chicks, Paramore, Reba, Miranda Lambert, and the great Dolly Parton.
What's a song currently stuck in your head? Why? "Tinman" - Miranda Lambert // I know I'm not alone when I say I just love this song. I put it on repeat just to feel a little heartache, it hurts so good.
Aside from music what do you do for fun? I've been riding horses since age 5, and aside from music, it's my other passion. I visit my horse every day that I'm home, and I love competing with him. We do mostly hunter jumpers, but we've tried out hand at cattle sorting, and he's a pretty decent cow horse! I love to take him swimming at the horse beach. I also enjoy painting when I have the free time.
