Aconundrum

Just as their biography suggests, Aconundrum defies genres. Mix in a bit of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers here and dash of Seether there and you’ve got the mixings of a rootsy-Americana-pop-rock four-piece band.

“Clean Up Your Mess” is the first single from the forthcoming album, Layers, out June 29th on all platforms and physical CD.

The band describes the song as a strong pop track in the realm of Maroon 5. Lead vocalist Joshua Randles’ approach is confident like Adam Levine. But, he has a bit more growl to his voice – think Ken Block of Sister Hazel meets Sameer Gadhia of Young the Giant.

“Josh definitely took the lead as far as writing the lyrical content to it,” Justin Barnes, drummer for Acondundrum, said. “Jef (Keruma) the guitarist for the band came up with the guitar riff for the melody. Those two definitely had a huge part in making it what it was.”

The song has a motivational vibe – a calling to the listener that their destiny is on their shoulders.

“I definitely get that vibe that its aimed at you or yourself – everyone has a person in their life that lets things topple over and they don’t clean up their messes, so to speak,” Barnes said. “To me it resembles a wake up call for them to get their stuff together because this is life and that’s essentially what you have to do.”

Layers is named after the group’s varied musical influences to create a unique, succinct sound. Randles’ influences include Paramore, Lilly Allen and Beyonce. Keruma’s musical pallet includes Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai. Bassist Reid Clagett names Alter Bridge, Jet and Led Zeppelin as influences and Barnes’ lists the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters.

The Nashville-based band will hold the Layers album release party at a venue near and dear to them, The Boro Bar and Grill in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
