Thank you so much for chatting with Music Update Central! You're gearing up for a brand new single release on June 23rd. What can fans and readers expect? Thanks for having me! Well, this song "Ice Cold Summer" is my single on the "Summer On Repeat" compilation record for my record label Silverado Records that I wrote with my buddy Justin Wilson. It's just a fun summer song that pushes my comfort zone and shows a little different side from my usual traditional country sound. Most of all, it's a way to give the fans a little taste of what's to come while we gear up to start recording my first album with my brand new record deal.
What's your most memorable experience that impacted your musical career? That's a hard one to answer. There's been so many amazing opportunities and things I've gotten to do over the years that it's hard to pinpoint one. I think I'd have to go with a night back when I first started really touring nationally. I opened up for Mark Chestnutt who is a huge influence of mine. He asked me to come up and sing "Somebody Save The Honkytonk" with him and afterward, we went out to his bus, drank a few too many Miller Lites, and passed the guitar back and forth playing old school country songs till about 5 in the morning. It was just one of those surreal moments when I realized I was really finally living my dream.
You recently signed to Silverado Records. How do you feel about that? Yes, I did! I love it so far. It's a family atmosphere over there, which is a huge thing for me. If I'm working with someone, I want to feel close and it's just that. At the end of the day, I'm all about great music and not exactly chasing a trend and we just all see eye to eye perfectly so I'm excited to get back in the studio and start making music without the pressure of a label lurking over your shoulder. I can't wait to see how the new album turns out.
What song are you current jammin' too? I listen to the new country just to try and keep an eye out for what's going on in Nashville but I mostly am listening to older country or stuff I grew up on in the 90's but I've really taken a huge liking into Texas country these days. I can't quit listening to the new Cody Johnson record and his previous ones.
